Atmospheric Grooves

When did you begin DJing and what made you start?

I joined the armed forces in October 1991 when I was 16 yrs old. I'd spent the whole Summer of 91 raving and a mate of mine had wealthy parents that bought him a set of 1210's and enough weekly pocket money to visit Black Market Records most Saturdays to buy Jungle vinyl. I had a cassette player when I went off to join the forces and every night listened to recorded sets from live events imagining I was the one dj'ing to the crowd.

What would you say influenced you towards your chosen style of music?

I was a 15yr old B-Boy when I discovered Kiss FM in 1990. Instantly became a regular listener to Steve Jackson the House that Jack built. That's where I first heard Hooligan 69 by the Ragga Twins; it was different from the Acid Warehouse tracks I'd been listening to. For me it was the start of my journey following music evolution to dnb. I already loved Hip Hop music, Breakbeat, Reggae, Ragga, Soul Music, and funk. Drum and Bass is all that rolled into one. Perfect.

Of the many genres of music, which are your favorite?

I can't say I have a favourite genre in music because there is probably a track I've heard in all genres that gives me goosebumps from Country and Western, Rock Music and Indie through to Acid, Trance, House and Techno. If you were to ask what my preference is when dj'ing, then Liquid Atmospheric dnb all day long.

How would you describe the genre of music that you play on your show?

Positive feel good vibes.

Which artists, producers and tracks stand out for you, both now and from the past?

Put it this way LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad Logical Progression was a game changer for me. It's not about which artist, producer or track that stands out for me it's about the whole Liquid Atmospheric dnb movement and every artist, producer that makes it so, thank you all.

Have you done any production? If not, is it something you aim to do?

Never, would I like to yes 100% but I know my dyslexia and OCD would get in the way.

What were your favorite clubs or festivals past and present?

Past

Awol at the Paradise Club Islington and Metalheadz at the Blue note Hoxton, If I could time travel I would revisit every night I went to at these two events.

Present

Soul Structure V's Smooth and Groove Northampton

This is a DJ nightmare but are your top 5 tracks?

You're having a bubble mateπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'm sure there's not a dj on this planet that can answer that. I only play tracks that are my favourite.

How do you promote your show to attract new listeners?

Two or three times a week I promote my show on social media and when I'm out at events dj'ing or generally having a night out I'll plug friends radio as well as my show.

There have been far too many occasions to date where I have failed to broadcast live on my regular weekly shows due to technical issues and I'm sure this has slowed down my building of followers. I need to upgrade my whole set up to ensure I turn up for every show week in week out.
